I am directed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 21st inst.

I am afraid Mr. Adams' service is hardly sufficient to justify the indulgence of a gratuity to his Widow.

It appears that he cannot consistently with the regulations bearing on the subject recommend the grant of any gratuity in respect,
